(MITCHELL) - State Police Bloomington are investigating the death of a Mitchell infant.
Shortly after 7:00am Saturday morning, Mitchell police were called to the home of Rebecca Blackwell, who told dispatchers her baby, Leland Michael Joseph Blackwell, was not responsive.
At 7:13am, Lawrence County Coroner John Sherrill was contacted, little Leland was dead. A death investigation was started by State Police in Bloomington, and they are expecting to have the autopsy complete by some time this afternoon.
Bloomington's Sergeant Curt Durnil told WBIW News that, at this point, he hasn't seen or heard anything that would indicate foul play, but they are investigating to be sure.
Mitchell Police Chief Jim Richardson told WBIW News that Mitchell officers rounded up a pair of witnesses and brought them to the station for information.
No arrests have been made at this point and, once again, foul play isn't expected.
