(BEDFORD) - This weekend’s snowstorms kept area law enforcement agencies busy with emergency calls.
Between Bedford police and Lawrence County Sheriff's officers, around 20 accident calls were responded to, one of which involved a Lawrence County Sheriff's SUV. In that wreck, one vehicle slid off the road at the bottom of a hill on Sandpit Road and, when 2 others tried to pass by, they couldn't make it up the hill and slid backwards into the first SUV.
A deputy arrived to work the accident, couldn't make it to the top either, but was able to park his truck to help the other three and, when he was working the accident, his parked SUV started to slide backward and bumped the other vehicles.
Between Lawrence County and Bedford police reports, there were no injuries in any of the accidents this weekend.
The State Police Jasper post responded to 46 slide-offs and 22 accidents including 1 with injuries and one that wound up losing a police cruiser.
A state trooper was out of his car helping a motorist near the Dubois County Airport when an oncoming vehicle slid across the centerline and struck that cruiser head on.
Fortunately the officer was not inside.
