Bartholomew County Has Most Meth Labs Dismantled In State

Last updated on Friday, April 18, 2008

(UNDATED) - The Indiana State Police report having torn down more meth labs last year than they did in 2006.

Last year, state police Meth Suppression Units dismantled 820 labs, versus the 766 they got rid of in 2006.

However, both those totals are down from 2004 and 2005 levels, where officers eliminated more than 2,000 labs in those two years combined.

Meth lab elimination in the Bloomington district, which includes Lawrence, Monroe, Owen, Brown and Greene Counties, was relatively light.

2 were eliminated in Lawrence and Brown Counties, 3 in Greene, 10 in Monroe and 13 in Owen. Officers took down 9 in Orange County, 2 more in Martin, 12 in Washington and 15 in Jackson. In the South Centeral Indiana area, Bartholomew County was meth-central, with 64 labs eliminated.

State police are still asking Hoosiers to be watchful for meth activity, since the labs themselves are fire and explosion hazards, and ask anyone with information on meth or drug activity to call (800) 582-8440.
