(BEDFORD) - Last night’s storms cost one Bedford family their home.
Around 1:00am this morning, Bedford fire fighters were called to a home on the 800 block of Glen Meadows to the reports of a fire caused by a lightning strike.
Bedford Fire Chief Scott Gillespie tells WBIW News the home, owned by Lowell Stailey, was struck by lightning and that lightning strike awoke Stailey's wife. When she got up, she smelled what she described as electrical wire, and looked outside to see her back yard full of smoke.
When fire fighters arrived, the home was already 50% involved, and it took 12 firemen along with several pieces of equipment 4 hours before everything was tied up enough to leave.
Gillespie says a couple of the exterior walls are still standing and a few personal items could be retrieved from the living area after the fact, but the house is pretty much a loss.
