(JASPER) - The county commissioners in Dubois County are opening the flood gates at Patoka Lake to alleviate flooding in that area, but the extra water will be making it’s way down the Patoka River into Gibson County. That has emergency officials there worried.
Gibson County Red Cross Director Greg Waite says that action -- combined with rain over the next few days -- will make things worse for people in Gibson County.
Waite says they've issued an alert to people living along the Patoka River to keep a close eye on the situation and be ready to evacuate quickly if the water starts to rise. He says they'll open a shelter, if necessary.
If you need help, call the Red Cross at 386-6300.
