(BEDFORD) - Unemployment numbers for the area are out this morning, and overall, it’s a curveball.
Unemployment in Lawrence County is up, from 7.0% in January, to 7.6% in February, that being the most recent data compiled, however, unemployment in the City of Bedford took a bit of a dive, going from 10.1% to 7.9%.
However, with other county seats seeing a drop in unemployment in the 8th Economic Growth Region, which includes Lawrence, Brown, Daviess, Greene, Martin, Monroe, Orange and Owen Counties, Bedford has gone from 3rd place in January, to 2nd place in February.
Additionally, statewide, Lawrence County has gone from 5th place in having the worst unemployment, to 4th place.
Overall unemployment in the region did take a jump, from 4.8% to 5.5%, and Indiana inched up a little, from 5.1% to 5.2%. Nationwide, unemployment inched down two ticks, from 5.4% to 5.2%, which means Indiana is right at the national average.
In best and worst ranking nationwide, South Dakota still has the best employment rates, and Michigan remains at the bottom.
