(BEDFORD) - A Williams man is in jail after he allegedly beat his live-in girlfriend.
Bedford police responded to a domestic call last night at the 700 block of V Street and, when they arrived, reports say the female victim was walking out of her apartment, bloody and battered.
The woman alleged that her live-in boyfriend, 34-year-old Michael Gates of Williams, got drunk, got mad at her and beat her. The woman refused medical treatment but did offer up a description of gates and his vehicle.
Gates was later found at the AAA Gas Station on 16th Street where they took him into custody after a reportedly minor struggle.
Bedford officers found he was already wanted on a warrant for marijuana possession in Martin County, and also charged him with domestic battery, battery causing injury, driving while intoxicated and suspended, resisting arrest by force, and false and fictitious registration.
Gates was lodged in Lawrence County jail.
