(BIRDSEYE) - A Birdseye man is behind bars after threatening an Indiana state trooper with a knife last night.
State Police Jasper say 49-year-old David Atkins was trying to purchase alcohol at a liquor store which was reportedly in violation of a court order against him, and when officers arrived and identified themselves, they say Atkins pulled a knife.
After disregarding orders to drop the knife, Birdseye Town Marshall Bob Jenkins deployed a Taser, allowing officers to retrieve the knife and take Atkins into custody.
Atkins was then taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital to be looked over and then to Dubois County jail, charged with two felony counts of intimidation and a lesser charge of resisting law enforcement.
