(BLOOMINGTON) - Today is D-Day for those waiting for the official start of construction on the B-Line trail in Bloomington.
Bloomington Mayor Mark Kruzan told WBIW News that he hopes the B-Line will serve as an example for other communities wanting to add or expand recreational trails.
"I really do get excited about the prospect that, at some point, somewhere, in the region, in the country, that there will be someone doing radio interviews talking about Bloomington, Indiana as an example," Kruzan tells WBIW News.
The first phase will be the most important one as it runs right through downtown Bloomington, and will serve not only as a trail to bike, run or rollerblade on, but also to shop and experience the city from.
This will put it on par with other college town setups, like the Constitution Trail in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois, home of Illinois State University, and the pedestrian mall which comprises downtown Iowa City, home of the University of Iowa.
Make sure you tune into WBIW's Talk of the Town this morning at 8:30am as News Director Justin Metzger talks with Bloomington Mayor Mark Kruzan about the project.
