(BLOOMINGTON) - Alcohol is being blamed for a parking lot accident in Bloomington.
Monroe County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Scott Mellinger says a vehicle was backing out of a parking spot in the Westinghouse lot when it was struck by a Jeep driven by a Robbie Bex.
When county officers arrived, the driver of the first vehicle alerted the deputy to his suspicion that Bex had been drinking, and when the deputy approached Bex, he reported smelling the odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath.
The officer told Bex he would need her to complete a field sobriety test, despite her protestations that she had not been drinking, but failed them nonetheless, and then blew a .10% on a portable breathalyzer.
Once Bex was lodged in the Monroe County jail charged with driving while intoxicated, only then did she admit to having drank vodka for 9.5 hours the previous day.
