(BLOOMINGTON) - Sometimes, when you get in a fight with your girlfriend, there’s good ways to make up, and there’s not-so-smart ways to make up.
Around 2:00am Monday morning Monroe County officials say a deputy was off duty near IN-46 and Smith Pike when he saw a person drive up to the Orscheln store, put flowers into his vehicle and drive off.
The deputy got out after him and pulled the driver, 27-year-old Seth Patterson of Bloomington, over. Patterson told the deputy he had purchased the flowers earlier Sunday but forgot to pick them up, but when he couldn't produce a receipt, he admitted to stealing them.
The deputy took Patterson into custody and when searching his vehicle, found a syringe and a spoon with burn marks on it.
When confronted, Patterson told officers he had used the needle to inject heroin less than 2 hours beforehand, then, after getting into a fight with his girlfriend, decided to grab the flowers to make up.
Patterson was jailed on felony charges of theft and unlawful possession of a syringe, no word on whether he got a chance to make up with his girlfriend.
