(BEDFORD) - Bedford police have a man in custody after he allegedly ran into another vehicle while drunk, and then took off.
Bedford police say 22-year-old Donald Fletcher was driving east on Heltonville Road when he came across a vehicle, driven by 22-year-old Austin Perry, coming his way. But there was a problem, Perry was driving in Fletcher's lane.
This caused Fletcher to duck off the road and hit a tree, and, though he wasn't injured, he did call police with a description of Perry's vehicle which police would soon after find. When police made contact with Perry, they say he showed signs of intoxication, and when they went to take him into custody, he reportedly became belligerent and tried to fight off officers, so they had to forcibly cuff him.
The then refused tests for intoxicants, causing them to get a warrant to do so, and when Dunn Hospital techs tried to take a blood sample, he continued to be a problem.
They would eventually get Perry lodged in Lawrence County jail facing charges of leaving the scene of an accident, driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest by force, disorderly conduct, and a couple other charges.
