(CAPEHART) - Just after 6:00am this morning, that which has been feared for days finally happened in Daviess County: the levees protecting Plainville and Capehart from the engorged White River have failed.
The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning until noon in northwestern Daviess County, and are advising those in the Plainville and Capehart flood plains to evacuate now, though it is still a voluntary evacuation.
The Times-Herald¬ in Washington, Indiana reports a 40-yard swath of levee failed, and now they have swiftly rising water in Plainville and Capehart.
This adds to the woes in Daviess County, part of the epicenter of area flooding along with Greene County, as Elnora and Maysville have both been evacuated as well, and US-50 has been closed through the area, on top of the White River.
