(BEDFORD) - The Bedford Chamber of Commerce is now warning Bedfordites of another banking scheme happening in the area.
The Indiana Department of Financial Instituions says callers are posing as officials from wither the state or the Department of Financial Institutions, and are saying they are calling to verify your bank accounts are, indeed, FDIC insured.
These calls are bogus, and are another "phishing" scam, where they are trying to get your account information, not to verify it's insured, but to verify that they can get into it and rob you blind.
Department of Financial Institutions officials, nor any government officials, will ever call you to get your information for any reason, so anyone who asks is a scam artist, no matter what excuse they offer.
If you are, indeed, concerned about your bank accounts being insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Company, call your financial institution and speak with a person there, or, visit your bank and look for the FDIC sticker on the window.
