(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana University plans on beating its own projections to have all asbestos removed from university dormitories.
IU's Residential Programs and Services Office said back in 2005 that all asbestos should be out of campus dorms by 2015, now, they say, 2012 should be the completion date.
The Indiana Daily Student, the campus newspaper, reported on asbestos being found in 4 dormitories back in 2005 including Forest, McNutt, Briscoe and the Tulip Tree Apartments.
Most large buildings in America built before 1980 use asbestos as both an insulator and fire retardant, which when damaged can lodge in the lungs and cause cancer.
