(BEDFORD) - It was a scene almost reminiscent of a Benny Hill chase sketch.
A Bedford officer saw a vehicle driving very quickly southbound on J Street shortly after midnight Sunday, and eventually caught up to make a stop near 14th and L.
Well, he didn't as much make a stop, as the driver bailed from the moving vehicle at a gas station parking lot at 14th and L Streets.
The officer pursued on foot and caught the suspect, 21-year-old Ryan McGaha of Bedford, but when he placed him in the back of the squad car, McGaha reportedly tried to break the cruiser's window out, causing the officer to bring in a caged vehicle.
After that, the officer was advised the car he chased to the gas station was leaving, driven by one of the passengers, 28-year-old Cassandra Jernigan of Bedford. Officers stopped that car and took Jeringan and the other passenger, 29-year-old Amanda Gregory, into custody.
Gregory faces a public intoxication charge, and Jernigan faces drunk driving, disorderly conduct and driving while suspended charges.
McGaha faces drunk driving, criminal recklessness with a vehicle, reckless driving, resisting arrest and public intoxication charges.
All three were taken to Lawrence County jail.
