(MITCHELL) - Lawrence County is one of 9 counties to have a site added to the list of “shovel ready” sites in the state, taking the total number of “shovel ready” counties up to 30.
Clark, Crawford, Henry, Jennings, Knox, LaPorte, Perry and Warrick Counties were the others added to the list. What the designation means is that these counties have done title, legal, environmental and other work to qualify for expedited development, meaning it's now easier for new business facilities to be developed in Lawrence County.
The specific site in Lawrence County that has been designated "shovel ready" is the new Mitchell Business & Industrial Park in the City of Mitchell.
Mitchell Mayor Dan Terrell tells WBIW News that the city will receive a $10,000 grant to reimburse costs as a result. The process involved getting all utilities and infrastructure set up so all a company has to do is turn soil over and build.
Lawrence County Economic Growth Council Chairman Gene McCracken tells WBIW News there's already one taker.
Foam Craft, Inc. is scheduled to break ground on a new 50,000 foot, $2 million facility this October.
