(BLOOMINGTON) - Downtown Bloomington’s business district has a new tenant…Illinois Senator Barack Obama.
The Obama campaign has opened its first general election office at 9th and Walnut Streets in what used to be a taco joint yesterday.
The Obama campaign has long pledged to have operations running in all 50 states, and with Indiana being a competitive state in presidential politics for the first time in 44 years, expect to see more action from both campaigns.
However, officials say one thing you most likely won't see is a McCain office in Hoosier territory. McCain campaign officials say the resources aren't available for McCain to establish offices in Indiana, while Obama will be setting up 6, and is scheduled to be speaking at Purdue at an invitation-only event.
Currently, according to a realclearpolitics.com poll of polls, Obama is up in Indiana by a an average 0.5%, but one poll by the Indianapolis Star has found Obama to be up by as much as 8%, though McCain was found to be up, during that same time by the same 8% spread by Research2000.
