(SELLERSBURG) - A wreck on I-65 early Saturday morning claimed the life of a young Louisville, Kentucky man near Sellersburg.
State police from the Sellersburg District say 20-year-old Adrian Velazquez of Louisville was headed northbound when, for unknown reasons, he struck the right-hand guardrail, damaging about 70 feet of it before the vehicle became impaled by it.
Velazquez was conscious when EMTs loaded him into the State Care helicopter, however, he died form his injuries at the University of Louisville Hospital.
Police say witnesses report Velazquez was racing his Scion tC coupe against a Mustang and another vehicle, they smelled an alcoholic beverage on his breath, and he wasn't wearing a seat belt.
