(BLOOMINGTON) - Police statewide are gearing up for the 4th of July, and no, that doesn’t mean stocking up on bottle rockets and roman candles for a department Independence Day party.
State police are stepping up patrols for speeders, drunk drivers, and other dangerous drivers to help make sure everyone else can get where they're going and use their own bottle rockets and what not safely.
State police patrols, as well as those by the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division, are going to be putting in extra time during the weekend since, according to police statistics, 13 people died last year on Hoosier highways during the weekend of the 4th.
