(BEDFORD) - Unemployment continues its upward trend in the US, Indiana, and Lawrence County.
The Indiana Department of Workforce Development released it's most recent figures for the month of July, which showed Lawrence County taking a jump from 7.0% to 8.5% over the 1 month time span.
Compared to July of last year, that's a 2.3% increase. Granted, the Lawrence County jump most likely has plenty to do with the final day of Visteon operation being July 31st.
The State of Indiana climbed from 5.8% to 6.1%, which keeps the state just ahead of the national average of an even 6.0%, which, itself, climbed from 5.7%.
Some areas did buck the trend, however. Monroe County went down 0.1%, Brown County went down 0.3%, Greene went down 0.4%, Jackson 0.2%, Martin 0.3%, but Orange went up 0.2%.
Lawrence County's jump puts her back in the top 10 counties in employment, at number 10 exactly.
For the month of June, Lawrence County was ranked 13.
