(ORLEANS) - The Orleans Police Department has lost its Assistant Chief of Police yesterday morning.
Orleans Clerk-Treasurer Robert Henderson, Jr. says Ed Moffatt passed away after a brief illness at Bloomington Hospital after a long service to the Town of Orleans.
Funeral arrangements are currently pending in town, and Henderson says the Town Hall and offices will be closed the day of the funeral, whenever it gets scheduled.
Moffatt's death occurred almost two weeks after the Orleans Police Department hired 22-year-old William Fugate as a temporary officer to stand in and fill a manpower hole during Moffatt's absence due to illness.
