(SEYMOUR) - A Paoli man who was wanted for copper theft in Crawford County was picked up in Seymour.
State Police Jasper say detectives had been investigating 45-year-old Leland Gilbert of Paoli for some time in reference to a series of copper thefts in an area that spanned from Southern Indiana into the Louisville, Kentucky area.
One heist, on April 11th, saw Gilbert allegedly take more than $5,500 worth of spooled copper wire from a Duke Energy facility.
State troopers were issued a warrant for Gilbert's arrest, and then this past Thursday, Gilbert was pulled over in Seymour for driving a car that was reported stolen in Frankfurt, Kentucky and also had tags reported as stolen, and that's when they additionally served that copper theft warrant.
Gilbert is currently lodged in the Jackson County jail facing charges from the warrant including felony theft and misdemeanor trespassing and criminal mischief.
Charges related to the reportedly stolen vehicle have not been listed.
