(BEDFORD) - More unfortunate economic news for Lawrence County. Lawrence County unemployment has increased 0.7% of a point from July to August, getting up to 9.2%.
That puts Lawrence County back in the top 5 in the state, now sitting at number 4, only behind Fayette, Adams and Blackford Counties.
It's also a big increase from August of last year, when Lawrence County unemployment sat at an even 6%.
Our neighbors to the north, Monroe County, stayed at an even 4.8% unemployment, though that's also a jump from last year's 3.7%.
Orange County stayed close to their July numbers, only going up 0.2% to 6.2%. Orange County unemployment was at 4.9% last year.
Statewide, unemployment climbed from 6.1% to 6.3%, and that puts us above the national average of 6.1%, which also is up 0.1%.
