(UNDATED) - The lights are still out for a large number of area residents. Duke Energy reports this morning more than 1,000 people in Lawrence County being in the dark, along with about 4,000 in Jackson County, 6,500 in Monroe and about 900 in Orange.
Duke Energy officials say this is probably the largest storm from a damage standpoint the company has ever had to deal with, and that some customers in Lawrence County could be out of power through Saturday.
Orange County and Utilities District of Western Indiana REMCs are both putting things back together.
Jackson County REMC says they had about 3,100 without power as of last night, and they also are expecting work to continue through the weekend.
Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig reminds residents to stay away from power lines on or near the ground, and to check on your neighbors to make sure they're okay.
