(BEDFORD) - Recovery efforts in the WBIW listening area are continuing, and, apparently, so is the damage.
Duke Energy has reported an increase of about 1,000 more customers with power outages in Lawrence County, that number standing at just below 5,500 at 10:30 this morning.
Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig tells WBIW News that late last night, long after the storm had passed, limbs were still falling from trees.
Additionally, 911 emergency service was knocked out at the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department and Mitchell Police Department, with all 911 calls getting transferred to Bedford city police for about 2 hours on Sunday.
Sheriff Craig also says that there are still a number of power lines down in the area, and that all of them should be avoided for safety reasons.
Duke Energy is bringing in additional crews from North and South Carolina to service power lines in the area, and that some customers may be out of power until Saturday.
