(BEDFORD) - The Bedford Fire Department received a $200,000 grant yesterday afternoon for a new regional training facility at their H Street headquarters.
It was a veritable who's who of local politicians in attendance including Lt. Governor Becky Skillman, State Senator Brent Steele, State Representative Eric Koch, and Mayor Shawna Girgis.
Girgis said, "I mentioned a few weeks ago at our September 11th celebration a few weeks ago and moving the monument that how blessed we are to have men and women both in the county and the city to serve and protect us."
Fire Chief Scott Gillespie explained to WBIW News just what this all means to both the department and the area.
"We are the training hub for District 8," Gillespie said. "In addition to coordinating everyone else's training throughout the district, we also have access to grant funds such as this. But this training facility will change our program, and revolutionize it, and everything we do will be hands on training as opposed to just classroom training. It's an incredible opportunity and we're excited."
The facility will be assembled at Murray Park.
