(INDIANAPOLIS) - Controversy has erupted surrounding the USS Indianapolis Monument in the capitol city.
An "honorary survivor" says his name was removed from the contributor's plaque. John Gromosiak says he raised money for the monument and still sells paintings of the ship.
Former monument Executive Director Pat Finneran says Gromosiak claims to have raised more than $200,000 for monument maintenance and upkeep. But, Finneran says they haven't seen any of that money.
Finneran admits Gromosiak has done a lot for the veterans of the disaster, but says his name simply doesn't belong on the memorial.
