(BLOOMINGTON) - Police in the City of Bloomington made an arrest for attempted murder and arson at an Acadia Court apartment yesterday.
Bloomington's Captain Joe Qualters says 19-year-old Jon Blauvelt stated he was knocked out and robbed, and woke up to later to a bunch of electronics missing and the smell of smoke.
His 19-year-old pregnant girlfriend, Robin Shepherd, and her mother were both asleep in the back of the home. Both were able to escape through their bedroom windows but Shepherd suffered severe burns, though the mother was not injured.
However, a gas can was recovered and traced back to Blauvelt himself, who eventually admitted to setting the fire and moving the reportedly stolen items to his mother's garage.
Blauvelt faces 2 counts of attempted murder and 1 of arson.
Shepherd delivered her baby prior to being taken to the burn unit at Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis where she remains with severe burns to her face, arms, hands and stomach.
No information is available on the condition of the baby.
