(MONROVIA) - A 17-year-old male is recovering in Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis after he was shot while allegedly assaulting a Morgan County homeowner.
The Martinsville Reporter-Times reports the shooting victim and another 17-year-old male, both from Marion County, and a 16-year-old Morgan County female are all facing charges of theft, battery, possession of stolen property and false informing.
Morgan County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Robert Downey tells the paper a homeowner approached a car that pulled in his driveway and looked like one that had broken into other nearby homes.
When the man came out but was then assaulted and knocked down by the two males, and, while they were reportedly kicking him, he tried to fire a warning shot from his .45 caliber pistol and ended up striking one in the stomach.
The three fled but crashed their reportedly stolen car into another home.
All three were captured and two were taken to the Johnson County Juvenile Detention Center, the third to the hospital.
