(BEDFORD) - A Bedford woman was found dead in her home yesterday morning, and then her car was reported stolen early this morning.
Bedford Police Assistant Chief Dan Kirk tells WBIW News 31-year-old Kelly Van Meter was found dead in her home around 10:30 yesterday morning, and detectives and Lawrence County Coroner John Sherrill were called to investigate.
Then, at around 1:00am this morning, county logs show a woman called the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department saying a blue Neon was stolen from her driveway, and that the car belonged to Van Meter.
Kirk says the presumed cause of death, at this time, is a drug overdose, but finalization of that determination depends on the results of toxicology screens and other testing currently underway.
No updates on the status of the car have been made available to WBIW News by press time.
