(UNDATED) - Hunters took 13% more deer this year than they did in 2007 during two controlled hunts at 17 Indiana state parks.
A total of 1,468 deer were taken from the state parks on November 17-18 and December 1-2, according to Mike Mycroft with the Department of Natural Resources.
DNR biologists evaluate which parks require a deer reduction each year, based on the recovery of vegetation that deer eat and previous hunter success at each park.
The selected parks are closed temporarily to the public during the hunts.
