(BLOOMINGTON) - The Department of Labor is investigating whether a Monroe County sheriff’s deputy had required safety equipment when she was struck by a vehicle while directing traffic.
27-year-old deputy Sarah Jones died October 19th after being hit by an SUV in an October 17th crash west of Bloomington.
Indiana State Police say Jones was not wearing a reflective safety vest at the time of the accident, which was blamed on a distracted 16-year-old driver.
Deputy Labor Commissioner Sean Keefer says the office is evaluating the sheriff's department's safety program.
