(MITCHELL) - History was made Thursday night in Mitchell as the Lady Jackets knocked off the Bedford North Lawrence Lady Stars for the first time ever 65-47.
A ruckus crowd at the hive saw the county rivals square off in a game between two of the powerhouse's of southern Indiana.
Both teams struggled at the onset with both high paced, high scoring teams having trouble finding the range.
Mitchell scored first however and never looked back, leading at all stops including 16 to 7 after one.
The second quarter saw more of the same between the squads as Mitchell extended its lead to 15 at 29 to 14 at halftime.
The Lady Stars mounted a small run to start the second half on consecutive baskets by Tabi Terrell, but that run was answered by an even bigger run for the Lady Jackets who saw their lead swell to 20 after the third.
Natalie Morse led all scorers with 16 points, Amanda Trambaugh added 14 for the Jackets, while Amanda Anderson was the lone Star in double figures with 12.
The win was the seventh straight for the Jackets.
Mitchell (8-2) travels to Charleston on January 3rd, while BNL (5-4) will play in Madison on Saturday afternoon.
