(BLOOMINGTON) - A frowny-face emoticon in text-speak is usually sent by combining a colon with a right-facing parenthesis.
However, sending one while driving in Monroe County could put a real frown on your real face if police see you.
The Bloomington Herald Times reports Monroe County is considering an ordinance for tomorrow's meeting that would levy a $25 fine against any driver caught texting while operating a motor vehicle.
Anyone caught texting, e-mailing, receiving either texts or e-mails, or surfing the web from their wireless devices will face such a fine, however, those who use their cell phones for actual phone calls will not be included.
However, Monroe County Sheriff Jim Kennedy told the paper that, due to resource shortages, priority for enforcement of such an ordinance will be low and County Attorney Jeff Cockerill says it may not even be enforceable within Bloomington city limits.
