(BEDFORD) - Today is the last day on the job for the Bedford Police Department’s second-in-command.
Now-former Assistant Chief of Police Dan Kirk turned in his papers to Chief Dennis Parsley this morning after 27 years and 10 months wearing a Stone City police shield.
Kirk had been spending the past few months working back and forth between the Bedford Police Department and filling in at the city's Planning Department, an opportunity Kirk tells WBIW News he enjoyed.
If Kirk were to take the job, current rules would demand that Kirk remain retired for at least 30 days before he could be placed in the job.
There has been no word on who his replacement would be in the police department.
As a result, however, the police pension board will meet this coming Thursday afternoon at the Bedford City Council Chambers at 2:00pm to fill his spot on the board, as well as to elect two more trustees to replace two trustees whose terms have expired.
