(UNDATED) - Lawrence County unemployment numbers are out for December, and just as was expected, they’re not good.
Lawrence county went from 9.9% in November to 11.6% in December, almost a 2% jump, and almost doubling our unemployment number from December of 2007.
Counties surrounding us haven't done much better, with Brown County climbing 1.5%, Greene up 1.6%, Jackson up 1%, Martin up 1.1%, Monroe up 0.6%, Orange up 1.3%, and Washington had the worst jump, at 2.2%.
When compared to the rest of the state, Lawrence County dropped from having the 5th worst unemployment to the 6th, with Marshall County climbing two spots to get ahead of us.
In all, the State of Indiana lost almost 39,000 jobs, climbing to 8.2% unemployment, besting the national average of 7.1%.
And with more than 280,000 jobs lost nationwide so far this month, expect those numbers to continue climbing.
