(BEDFORD) - On yesterday’s icy roads, sometimes, efforts to avoid accidents would eventually cause more accidents.
Around 7:40am yesterday morning, Lawrence County police responded to a seemingly minor two car wreck at IN-37 and IN-54, the often dangerous Avoca turnoff, where a Bloomfield woman turned onto IN-37, slid on the slick road, started to spin, ultimately causing a Farmersburg woman to strike her passenger side front fender.
Any other day, this would be a quick cleanup, and not a big deal, but as other drivers approached the scene, they couldn't stop on the ice, and slid off the road, eventually causing crews to shut down that section of southbound IN-37 for around 1.5 hours.
Then, around 9:16am, a county officer was helping a slide-off on Avoca-Eureka Road at North Pike Road, when a semi approached, couldn't stop, and jackknifed.
Nobody was injured in yesterday's accidents, and between Bedford and Lawrence County police, the two departments worked at least 37 accident reports, plus additional slide-offs.
