(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana University police in Bloomington picked up a local man for promoting prostitution…again.
IUPD Captain Jerry Minger says 47-year-old Mark Gillette of Bloomington was originally arrested and convicted back in May of 2006 on 2 counts of promoting prostitution and another count of attempted promotion.
Since then, warrants were issued as he reportedly failed to appear for meetings and register as a sex offender.
However, Minger says IUPD Officer Chris Collins, while working undercover, responded to a male-for-male personal ad advertising a male escort service on craigslist.com which offered a method to trade money for sex.
Collins arranged a meeting at the IU HPER building and both he and Gillette showed up, and Gillette was arrested.
Prostitution via the website craigslist.com has gotten more attention lately due to Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart in Chicago filing suit against the company, trying to force them to eliminate their "erotic services" section.
On their website, Craigslist says the section exists to keep such ads out of the general classifieds section.
