(MITCHELL) - A Mitchell police officer stopped yesterday to break up a fight outside, and ended up injuring his knee in one himself.
Mitchell Police Department's Steve Blair tells WBIW News an officer stopped when he saw 51-year-old Michael Wininger of Mitchell and another individual in a physical altercation, and the officer ended up arresting Wininger for public intoxication.
Blair says Wininger reportedly didn't think this was a good idea, and allegedly started fighting with the officer, swinging at him and wrestling with him, until he was cuffed.
The officer injured his knee, but is otherwise okay.
Wininger was lodged in Lawrence County jail for battery on an officer, resisting arrest by force and public intoxication.
