(DETROIT, MI) - About 5,400 Hoosiers, including those here in Bedford, will be affected by General Motors’ decision to idle plants this summer.
Company officials say the GM Powertrain plant in Bedford, along with other GM facilities in Ft. Wayne, Marion and Indianapolis, will be idled in GM's cost-saving maneuver and furloughs could begin as early as next month.
Not only will this have a negative effect on these GM communities, it can also serve to damage the companies that supply materials to these plants, since no work means no parts orders.
