(UNDATED) - Here are five words you may not have been expecting to hear: Lawrence County unemployment…went down.
Granted, that's a relative term, however, the Indiana Department of Workforce Development reports unemployment in Lawrence County went from a February high of 14.7% down to 14.3% for March.
However, that is a bit of a statistical change more than it is an actual improvement.
73 fewer Lawrence County residents are considered amongst the employed, however, the county's overall available workforce shrunk by 191.
Either way, that moves Lawrence County out of the Top-10 counties in unemployment for the first time in ages, placing us at #11.
Nearby, Washington County sits at 12%, Brown is at 11.6%, Orange at 11.2%, Jackson 11.1%, Greene is at 9%, Martin at 8.4%, and Monroe has the second lowest in the state at 6.3%.
