(BEDFORD) - Bedford Republican State Senator Brent Steele is responding to criticism of the recently passed animal cruelty bill by continuing to support the measure.
Steele says, in a release, that the bill strengthens current animal cruelty laws in the state of Indiana, but is upset by those opposed to the bill, for one reason or another, saying they're playing a game of "my way or the highway."
The animal cruelty issue took center stage originally when Democratic State Representative Linda Lawson of Hammond introduced a much stronger bill in the House this year, however, that didn't move since many believed it would have a lot of unintended consequences, though some still support the measure.
Other opponents to the current proposal criticize its existence in the first place, believing it will harm legitimate dog breeders.
