(MITCHELL) - Lawrence County officials believe the addition of fiber-optic service for a business park in Mitchell will help make the rural county in Southern Indiana globally competitive.
The city built a 2.1 mile fiber-optic conduit for the 98-acre park with funding from the Lawrence County Economic Growth Council.
Indiana-based telecommunications company Smithville Digital has agreed to manage the high-speed system.
Mitchell Mayor Danny Terrell says the park is the only "shovel ready" site in the area and fiber-optics should help accelerate its growth and boost the region's economy.
