(GREENE COUNTY) - One Greene County mother is now facing preliminary charges after the death of her 5-month-old child.
Although she is not facing charges for the death or neglect of her son, but for possession of marijuana, a class A misdemeanor.
30-year-old Ella V. Jeffers of rural Bloomfield was charged with the possession and can now expect up to one year in jail and a fine not to exceed $1,000.
The five-month-old child was found dead strapped into car seat in the living room of his parent's home in reportedly 87 degree heat causing the child to die from heat stroke June 27.
The child's father, 24-year-old John Jeffers was sitting inside his bedroom with their other children watching TV when the 5-month-old passed.
Jeffers, who now lives in Martinsville told investigators when the child was discovered, that he had sent his kids out into the living room to check on the child, when his son returned to the bedroom and told his father that his brother looked a little strange.
The detective investigating the case noted that he discovered several fans around the house, none of which were near the child.
One of the other children in the home told the detective that their father spends most of his time playing video games, police discovered a tin box under the bed mattress filled with hemostats and other drug paraphernalia.
The father was charged with the neglect of a dependent resulting in death and possession of marijuana, he faces up to 50 years in prison.
