(MITCHELL, IN) - Mitchell Community Schools received an award from Indiana Tobacco Prevention and Cessation and the Lawrence County Tobacco Prevention and Cessation Coalition yesterday evening during the school board’s meeting.
The school board received the Gary Sandfir Smoke-Free Award following a unanimous decision by the board to make the school grounds smoke free.
Gary Sandfir was a life long smoker who died at the age of 50; he and his wife began to spread the word on the dangers of smoking after finding out he had cancer.
