Charges Filed Against Commissioner

Last updated on Tuesday, September 22, 2009

(LINTON, IN) - Greene County Commissioner Bart A. Beard, the man who was taken into police custody following the reported battery of his girlfriend in late August, has now been charged with the crime.

41-year-old Bart Beard was originally held in the Greene County Jail on a mandatory 12 hour hold for domestic battery cases.

According to a probable cause affidavit, officers were informed by a juvenile that Beard was beating up the child's mother.

When police arrived at the residence they discovered Beard and his girlfriend in the front room of the house, with the woman suffering bruising and swelling to her eye.

Once inside the residence, police discovered a smashed coffee table, and two young girls trembling in a corner of the kitchen.

Following his release from Greene County Jail, Beard had been awaiting charges for the crime.

Special Prosecutor Barry Brown filed a preliminary charge of battery against Beard Monday, along with the probable cause affidavit.

As of Monday afternoon, the probable cause and the charge had not yet been approved by the court.
