(BLOOMINGTON, IN) - Officers fired non lethal shots to subdue a man holding, what appeared to be a small handgun at a Bloomington apartment complex Sunday.
The 58-year-old man was standing between two apartment buildings, holding a gun to his head.
According to Sergeant Shawn Rasche of the Bloomington Police Department, the man held the weapon to his own head and occasionally pointed it towards police crews, who had at this time formed a perimeter around the man.
Officers eventually fired two non lethal rounds at the man's chest when he began to leave the scene.
Both the man's identity and condition have not been released at this time.
The handgun the man was carrying turned out to be an authentic looking replica reportedly similar to that of an air-soft gun.
The unidentified man was taken to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
