(SEYMOUR, IN) - Two arrests have been made in connection with the theft of a large wire bird cage from a wedding reception reportedly filled with an estimated $5,000 in cash, gift cards and check.
Seymour newlyweds Aaron and Margaret Thompson Brown were celebrating the reception of their marriage on September 19th when an unknown guest made away with the bird cage.
Police crews then arrived at the reception to collect information about the man; the family raised an additional $500 dollars cash to condole the couple for their lose.
27-year-old Casey D. Cockerham and his girlfriend, 24-year-old Michelle Nichalson, both of Brownstown were arrested Monday evening for the crime.
According to Police Chief Bill Abbott, the two that were arrested were driving by and saw the reception going on and decided to take advantage of the situation.
Abbott says that most of the gift cards had been canceled already and no one has tried to cash any checks.
The bird cage was found and turned in to police by a Seymour resident who discovered it in the street. The two arrested have been charged with theft and not robbery because they did not use force to steal the cage.
