UPDATE: Caraway Shot Wife
(BEDFORD, IN) - Bedford Police received a 9-1-1 call yesterday evening at around 7:23PM, from a caller asking police to send an ambulance for a female that was possibly fatally wounded from a gunshot.
According to a press release from the Bedford Police Department, 47-year-old Larry Caraway shot and killed his wife, 48-year-old Denise Caraway.
When police arrived at the residence on 3427 Washington Avenue, officers discovered Denise M. Caraway in the residence, dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
Officers have taken into custody and charged with voluntary manslaughter, the victim's husband.
Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley says that an autopsy is scheduled for 1:30PM Thursday.
Denise Caraway was a teacher at Bedford Head Start.
Debbie Beeler, Director of Child Services with Head Start describes Denise Caraway as being both quiet and one the program's success stories.
Denise first became involved with Head Start as a parent volunteer in the early 90's and later hired as a cook.
She worked her way up in the program over the years, eventually becoming a teacher.
Beeler says that Caraway was just beginning to pursue her bachelor's degree.
The Head Start half-day classes that Denise taught have been canceled for Thursday.
Police crews monitor the residence where a shooting of some sort is believed to have happened.
Police had previously been called numerous times to the Caraway residence for domestic dispute issues.
Larry Caraway was booked into Lawrence County Jail at 10:40PM Wednesday night.

Police continue to monitor the residence amidst lines of police tape, which sets a perimeter around the home.
Police tape marks a perimeter around the residence at 3427 Washington Avenue. A warning sign now hangs on the door of the home stating "crime scene."
